Scams to Avoid

Ways to spot an online scam

flag-red-hiSince the internet started there have been fraudsters looking to separate you from your money through big promises.  I myself, have fallen victim to some of these scams.  So I started doing some research on how to avoid internet marketing scams.  Some of them are more obvious than others.  I wanted to help you so I thought I would share what I have found here.  It may not let you avoid them altogether but it will give you some flags to look for to make sure you are not “just another victim.”

Crazy Up-Sales

If you purchase something for a small price and you instantly get bombarded with one up-sale after another.  That should be a GIANT red flag waving in your face.  Stop and instantly request a refund.  Many of these sites will offer a money back guarantee, more about this later.  That initial offer of say $5.00 can easily turn into $100.00 or more dollars.  The $5.00 is the hook and really gives you nothing but a spiral into their sales funnel.  They may even offer you a money back guarantee.

No Contact Info

You must first do some research on a company before you buy any product from them.  Do they have any way of contacting them?  If the answer is no, or very difficult to find any contact information.  Chances are it is a scam.  Run away from that red flag and don’t look back.  You will see this on many online jobs or work at home scams.

No Support

If there is a contact email send them an email and see how quickly you get a response.  Better yet if there is a support button send them a message through that.  You want to see fast response, the faster the better.  Some people say give them up to 48 hours to respond.  I myself look for 24 hour or less response, unless of course it is a weekend or holiday, then an appropriate amount of time.  Many online businesses never go on holiday or take weekends off but give them the benefit of the doubt and enough time to answer.  If they do not get back to you in a reasonable time frame avoid it.

Guru Supported

Well if one guru supports someone else’s product chances are both gurus are in an agreement to sell the other’s product.  What you say?  That is correct they are in the market to make money if the products support each other you can easily see one Guru support another’s product.  You could even see a big old picture with one, if not both, of them on the site.  It might just be another big flag of an online scam.

Video Only

Videoonly

If the entire sales page is a video; close the window, and the 27 pop-ups you are going to get asking “Are you sure?”, and don’t look back.  There is a good chance that it is a scam and they are trying to get you for every dime they can.  The longer you stay on the video the greater the chances are you will fall for this online scam.

Unrealistic Claims

Don’t forget the old saying,” if it is too good to be true, it probably is.”  There is nothing wrong with a free trial.  In fact I prefer products like Wealth Affiliates that give you a free trial, especially if you don’t need a credit card.  Then you at least get to see what the product actually is.  But if the product states things like:

  • You will make $50.00 a day in one week
  • Make $1000.00 your first month
  • No websites needed for easy online money.
  • Make 6 or 7 figure income from working at home.

They are more than likely internet scams to avoid.

So if you want to avoid scams follow these useful tips.  It won’t always be the case but at least it is something to keep in mind.

If you have any questions or comments please add them below, I appreciate all feedback!

Not easy to tell what is a scam. If you know how to sell online, you can sell anything, but if you don’t know it and you’re not learning, you can’t sell a great affiliate neither. Wealthy Affiliate is the best place to learn, how to sell.

Great scam reviews. Have you been trapped into any of these scams yourself? I was lucky to find Wealthy Affiliate before I gave my money to a scammer. Thanks for getting the word out.

Yes, I was caught by a few, but I was smart enough not to fall for all the upsells. The one I fell for was e-mobile code but quickly realized it was a mistake.

    Thanks for this great article!
I see there is a lot of scams that actually has a money back guarantee and if they are linked to clickbank, for example, it is easier. I think CLickbank should stop promoting these poor and misleading products.
    All the best!

      Stephan,
Thank you for the comment. Actually Clickbank itself gives the guarantee. If you have a problem with any of their products go strait to Clickbank.
